The Gods are in the Details:
There are two impressions that constantly strike you after even a partial viewing of Mr. Dressel's home: they are Time and Continuity. The tremendous amount of time (almost three years) that has been lavished on all manner of details great and small, and the continuity of quality materials throughout the home speak volumes about the fact no corners have been cut. On the contrary, it is obvious Mr. Dressel has spent hours and hours thinking of ways to make the home special and then spending more hours insuring that the presents the home promises to deliver to its owners are completely realized. Finishes:
Usually, a discussion of the finishes of even the finest home changes in detail as these finishes fluctuate from room to room. With this home, there is no need to modulate your enthusiasm for the greater and lesser spaces. Here, they are all wonderfully wrought.
We have Indian slate floors or Eastern Pine throughout. Steps and thresholds are Arizona Buff flagstone. Counters are all Brazilian granite or flagstone. Cabinets are alder or hand carved pine. Fixtures and appliances are Subzero, Viking, Jado, Jacuzzi, etc. The light fixtures are in many cases handmade solely for Kim's properties. I counted 68 custom lighting sconces; 130 feet of exquisitely crafted wrought iron railings, and 47 skylights. Many built-in cabinets, bookcases, and other fine pieces of furniture are included in the actual construction of the home.
The home is completely wet plastered in Kim's own color. Ceilings are beam-and-decking, or beam-and-cedar-latillas. Each section of beam is like each section of pine floor and cabinetry: everywhere you see evidence of hand adzing or the work of hand guided drawknife.
Windowsills are flagstone, back splashes and shower areas are slate or limestone. Drawers are full-extension, ball bearing slides and their actions are typical of the pleasurably tactile detailing of the type you will experience when you run your hand over the joints where plaster meets wood, stone meets stone, or wooden elements have been joined. Mica flecked shades have been created and silk has been hand dyed, etc.
You can go though this home time after time and find new evidence of care in places you never thought to look before.
Art Spaces and a Climate Controlled Environment for both Art and Fine Furniture:The home has many, many open walls for the display of art, nichos for sculpture, and is an inviting venue for all manner of hanging or free standing treasures. Individual art lighting is provided throughout the home. The property is completely humidified so that art and fine furniture do not suffer in our dry Southwest climate. Electronics, Mechanical Systems and Security:
The home has AMX touch pads in almost all the rooms, which combine with the in-room remote control units to allow you instant access to lighting, security and climate control. We have radiant, in-floor heat, air conditioning and humidification.
There are security cameras at the front gate and entry gate, which can be monitored from within the home at various locations. Pool and spa controls are automatic. The home, indoors and out, is wired for sound and the various media centers have all the hardware (Sony, Panja, etc.) installed and ready to operate. You can turn all the lights on and off with the entry of three numbers on the phone touch pad. There are 12 phone lines to the home.
Landscaping:Like the electronics for the home, everything is in place and ready for you to move into and enjoy. Exterior plaster is custom tinted Sto with local chopped straw detailing.
