Mike Baker
Biography

A 28-year veteran of the Santa Fe estate, land, homes, and commercial markets, Mike has over $450 million in local listing and sales experience.

Prior to moving to Santa Fe, Mike was the marketing director for Big Sky of Montana, which was the largest private resort in the U.S. at the time.

Besides real estate, Mike's interests include studying Portuguese, Shakespeare, golf, yoga, CZ's, writing and particularly the securities and futures markets. Probably one of the best known analysts of the local real estate scene, Mike has long been blessed with the most astute of clients, many of whom have remarked, "You may not like what you hear, but Mike will tell you the truth and explain it in ways to which you otherwise may not be exposed."

Mike and his partner, Penelope Vasquez, are listing specialists. On the buying front, they are happy to use their experience to work with someone who wants to understand where the market has been, where it is, where it may go, and is serious about purchasing real estate. Their goal with both buyers and sellers is to make sure clients understand more about the local market than most real state professionals know.

Mike went to school in California, was raised in both California and Wisconsin, and spent two years in Europe at the University of Uppsala in Sweden. He has U.S. M.A. in literature (both Shakespeare, and the development of the novel)and a minor in History, plus the U.S. equivalent in the Swedish university system of a B.A. in literature. are bachelors and masters in literature. He has a college age son, Luca, of whom he is very proud, who is studying architecture.

One of his favorite pastimes is running in the local mountains, training for the annual race from Ouray to Telluride, Colorado. Mike twice won his age group in the Santa Fe Ski Basin Hill Climb bicycle race and was also a professional ski instructor when there were no jobs for English majors.

Somewhere, he has a gold medal from playing wing forward on a Swedish championship rugby team. He is sure it will turn up, but is no less puzzled by its disappearance than he is puzzled by the fact that at 54, he hit seven balls over the fence in the local softball league, a seasonal high. At this rate, he figures he may actually be an accomplished player by the time it is appropriate to join his hero, Ted Williams, in the freezer of life.

Area Of Expertise

Listing and sales of top quality property from under $500,000 to well over $7 million, saying,"Price is not of such concern as is the the property being in a location where my partner and I have expertise (south to the Old Santa Fe Trail area, north to Tano Road, Tesuque, and then Nambe, east to the Sangres, and west to Las Campanas and the La Tierras)."

We have vast experience and contacts in commercial and investment properties, large acreage tracts, estate lots, and homes. We are always very proud to list what we consider "the heart of the market" - good properties for people who live in Santa Fe in the $300,000 to $750,000 range (above which we feel you are in the estate market in terms of nomenclatures and to which, while we are very well known as high-end agents, we do not limit ourselves. We have taken buyers who asked about $650,000 properties to closings where they bought $4,500,000 properties. In Santa Fe, you just never know who will start at one price range and end up a galaxy away.

Consulting by the hour is available. Mike has owned more than 40 properties and has an investor's perspective, as well as an agent's view of real estate. Mike is not a contrarian by nature and can give you a perspective about which you are probably not otherwise going to hear.
